Preliminary task evaluation

Preliminary Task Evaluation
The preliminary task introduced me to the application of the rule of thirds which made us ensure that our protagonist would not be in the centre but in increments of thirds within the frame. It also made us aware of how important continuity is especially when someone is entering/exiting a room as the perspective needs to be accurate such as exiting/entering on the correct side of the frame. However we need to be careful with our sound when we film outside as the wind affected the overall end product. Another thing we need to be careful with, with our main task is how we export it as this can affect the quality of the opening.

Institution and distribution

The artificial eye is a distribution company  popular than bigger distribution companies, famous for distributing non-international films these are not that well known, these will probably be similar to our film. they release roughly 20 theatrical films, and 30 new DVD and blue ray titles a year these are similar to our film. This company could be successful for distributing our film. As our film does not have a very well know director and actors etc, it means that our film is very unlikely to be distributed by the BBC, this is because the BBC is not a distributor to be controversial and launch things that could nessearly be seen as gory or censored. Our film would probably be suited more towards a distribution company like channel 4 as they release much more controversial content. They also release content that is not as well know this is why our film would be perfect for this distribution company.

As our film does't contain well known directors and popular actors, it would probably be best suited with a independent film institution. Bigger institutions are the one's that have the popular film stars and directors. A good institution that could potentially represent our film is 'Warp films'
they produce films like 'submarine' and 'this is england' These films are more controversial and less well known films. Warp Films would be great for our film as they distribute less well known films like ours would be.

Investigation of genre

To investigate we watch the openings to horror films for example paranormal activity and scream etc. I decided that there are two types of horror film, the first type was the classic old fashioned jump scare film and then the more modern horror film when the opening is very subtle beginning. The old fashioned films have the un realistic jump scares at the beginning etc. One of the films i researched was paranormal activity this had a very subtle beginning and was mostly just setting the scene and introducing the film. They had certain conventions used to foreshadow and hint that the film is a horror. This made the film intriguing and makes the audience feel like they want to watch more and find out the rest of the story.
